Permission outline for development at site (16.737 ha) which consists of the provision of Radiation Oncology Facilities for the National Plan for Radiation Oncology PPP Programme to re-provide and enhance the existing cancer treatment capacity. The new building is to be located to the south-west of the main hospital structure, to the west of the Clinical Sciences Building and to the east of the Cancer Care West Hostel. The site is bounded to the south by hospital grounds and Costelloe Road. The new building is to be accessed off the existing new perimeter road within the Galway University Hospital campus. The development comprises of (1) one new three storey structure (maximum gross floor area of c. 8463.75 sq.m) with a maximum height of c. 24m; a New Single Storey link walkway (maximum gross floor area of c. 370sq.m); Single Storey Glazed entrance and canopy structure. It is intended to construct 37 No. car parking spaces to be located to the north and west of the development and one new access road off the existing new perimeter road to the west of the development. It is proposed to demolish the following structures located on the site; Psychiatric Day Care, Psychiatric Unit and associated wards (3000 sq.m). None of these structures, within planning definition terms, are classified as habitable i.e. domestic dwellings. These structures will be demolished after relocation of the Psychiatric Department and Psychiatric Day Care to new accommodation built elsewhere on the hospital campus and covered by a separate full planning application to be submitted at a later date. A number of car parking spaces will be displaced and the relocation of these will also form part of a separate full planning application to be submitted at a later date |
