The site is bounded to the south by hospital grounds and Costelloe Road. The new building is to be accessed off the existing new perimeter road within the Galway University Hospital campus. It is proposed to demolish the following structures located on the site; Psychiatric Day Care, Psychiatric Unit and associated wards (3000 sq.m). None of these structures, within planning definition terms, are classified as habitable i.e. domestic dwellings. These structures will be demolished after relocation of the Psychiatric Department and Psychiatric Day Care to new accommodation built elsewhere on the hospital campus and covered by a separate full planning application to be submitted at a later date. A number of car parking spaces will be displaced and the relocation of these will also form part of a separate full planning application to be submitted at a later date
